HARDCORE. TAKE OFFENSE is at a point in their lifespan when many bands shrug their shoulders and crank out halfhearted riffs and reheated lyrics, "united states of mind" proves the group has the stamina and creativity to push their sound forward without losing touch with their roots. In short, TAKE OFFENSE is one of the most engaging hardcore bands to emerge in recent years, and lucky for all of us, they don't appear to be going anywhere. Colored (green) vinyl includes a digital download card.

METAL. Since 2008, TAKE OVER AND DESTROY has been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of heavy music. With an amalgamation of eclectic tastes: death-metal, rock, doom, death-rock, black-metal and horror scores, TAKE OVER AND DESTROY has established itself as a truly unique entity, both sonically and aesthetically. The 5 members' collective obsession with cinema results in their incorporation of the moody undertones of classic film scores into the raw power and energy of heavy metal and rock and roll. The album continues TAKE OVER AND DESTROY's tradition of pushing boundaries and crafting something unique. Post-punk elements weave their way into rock 'n' roll, providing haunting ambiance in the background to stadium anthems.

POST/FOLK-ROCK. If you're a fan of THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH, "dark bird is home" pays real tribute to the old records you fell for, and goes new places you're going to love as well. While "dark bird is home" is THE TALLEST MAN at his most personal and direct, deeper and darker than ever at times, it's also an album with strokes of whimsy and the scent of new beginnings - which feels fresh for THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH, and well timed. You should expect the loudest and proudest sounds yet on album number 4, but also the softest and the lowest. Vinyl includes a digital download card.

POST/FOLK-ROCK. "there's no leaving now", the newest record from Kristian Matsson's aptly titled moniker, THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH, finds the Swedish troubadour trading in the sense of urgency that fueled his first two records for a confidently relaxed approach. The results are paralyzing. Drums, piano, baritone guitar, woodwinds and pedal steel layer this collection of songs that never compromise virtuosity for immediacy. The songwriting is every bit as detailed and captivating as his previous work, but this time around, Matsson is showing a few more cards. Vinyl includes a digital download card.

SINGER/SONGWRITER. "out of the garden" is a mission statement that underscores the "power" in power-pop and is punctuated by lyrics as razor-sharp as the hooks. Written over a 2-year period during a break from touring, the album's emphasis on redefining feminine expectations was shaped by primary songwriter Jess Abbott's experiences living in Minneapolis and working at a liquor store in a rough part of town. Abbott's fearlessness to discuss personal topics is referenced in the album's title. Thick, 180gr, colored vinyl includes a digital download card.

ALTERNATIVE/INDIE-ROCK. TAPE REC hails from Rio in Brasil and they play a perfect trip back to raw '90s grunge/indie/punk. This record really just has all the influences that a kid getting into music in the '90s would want - it's got the raw stripped down lo-fi sound that bands like THE BREEDERS and BUTTERGLORY do, with occasional noised out mania of SONIC YOUTH or PIXIES. The vocals are pure sugary gold, and even come with the occasional SCREECHING WEASEL style guitar lead. Seriously, this is just the catchiest, most infectious stuff with a perfect raw production - no polish here at all - perfect grunge-pop for your punk heart!

LP 14.50€*

INDIE-ROCK. "outside" is TAPES 'N TAPES 3rd full-length. The record will be released on the band's own label, Ibid Records. TAPES 'N TAPES is a hybrid that resembles LOW fighting it out with MY BLOODY VALENTINE. This album is unique in an era of slick '80s chic, mixing the opaque jams of PAVEMENT with the bruised-teen freakiness of THE PIXIES. LP includes a MP3 download code.

LP 15.00€*

POST-ROCK. This is the 5th solo release by RODAN and JUNE OF 44 alum O'Neill, whose music straddles the line between alternative-folk singer/songwriter and foreboding drone quite well. "a ways away" is intimate in sound yet distant emotionally. Most of the songs are feature just O'Neill on acoustic guitar, with some occasional atmospherics, but in the end they feel cold, as if somehow abstract. Maybe it is just the fact that we are wired to expect intimacy from a singer accompanying herself on guitar.
