HARDCORE. CAST ASIDE are one of the hardest and angriest bands to surface from Richmond in years. Their 7" entitled "overcome" is already a contemporary hardcore classic, comprised of 6 songs that walk tall and prove that no frills hardcore is still a menacing threat to the music world. The CD contains 12 songs; 6 from the "overcome" 7" and 6 from their demo.

HARDCORE. "the struggle" is the full-length from CAST ASIDE. A true show of strength, sincerity, and intensity in the face of an always present opposition. As much a personal declaration as it is a brute force of metallic hardcore power.

The Debut 3-song EP clocking in at 18 minutes, 28 seconds, from South Dakota's newest metal powerhouse, CASTLE. While one cannot ignore the influence of bands such as SLEEP, PELICAN, and ISIS have had on the band, CASTLE is certainly not to be lost in the sea of boring and carbon copy drone and doom bands currently flooding the hardcore scene. CASTLE keeps things interesting, maintaining their hardcore roots, and incorporating fast parts and both harsh screamed and growled vocals into the mix. The recording also features an ex-member of THE SPIRIT OF VERSAILLES and EXAMINATION OF THE.

INDIE-POP. CATS ON FIRE maybe from Finland, but their modus operandi resembles that of their Swedish neighbours indie scene, in the way that country has become a virtual conveyor belt of inventively jangly, lovelorn, fundamentally exciting guitar pop. In CATS ON FIRE’s case the influence of the SMITHS, ORANGE JUICE or just your favorite pop album, where every single song is so good that it would be hard to decipher which song on the album was meant as the single. You won’t be able to find a throwaway track here, which is an oddity in this year’s music output.

SCREAMO-HARDCORE. CEASE UPON THE CAPITOL is an intense screamo band from around Nashville, Tennessee, with their best songs to date. This release features 9 untitled songs in the vein of LA QUIETE, RAEIN and early ENVY. This is a great buy for any fan of those or any other bands of the genre.

PROGRESSIVE-HARDCORE/METAL. Expressionistic, sophisticated, evolved, overflowing, pitch-black. Just a few words, a desperate attempt to properly approach "animale(s)", the 5th full-length record of the French combo CELESTE from Lyon. The concept behind the album is the bleak story of a boy and a girl, a kind of love story with a tragic ending. A story about how tough youth can be if parents discard their responsibilities. Musically, "animele(s) sees CELESTE developing their metal and hardcore oriented sound in different directions. CELESTE truly managed to finish this double album at the right moment, before the amount of concept, composition and artistic skill would have been too much for a single album. Simply put, it is just perfect. For fans of: (early) CULT OF LUNA, NEUROSIS, AMENRA, YEAR OF NO LIGHT.

PROGRESSIVE-HARDCORE/METAL. Denovali offers CELESTE's very 1st full-album "nihiliste(s)" again as a reissue with a new packaging and a slightly different design. From black-metal to sludge, from doom to posthardcore - the people love them because they're not copycats - they're not trying to exhaust any genre clichés - they're simply creating their own dark soundscapes with every new record. The result is pure hopelessness and distress.

HARDCORE-PUNK. CEREMONY's 6 song "covers" features cover songs from URBAN WASTE, PIXIES, CRISIS, EDDIE AND THE SUBTITLES, VILE and WIRE, and were recorded as outtakes during the "rohnert park" recording session. POST-HARDCORE. "rohnert park" is the 3rd album by Bay-Area's CEREMONY, originally released in 2013. Named after a town in California that the band grew up in, "rohnert park" showcases CEREMONY at their finest as they mix influences like BLACK FLAG, CIRCLE JERKS and early FUCKED UP and even some THE STOOGES hints to present their best material yet. This album is equal parts aggressive, incendiary and, catchy. Don't let that fool you, though; CEREMONY's trademark pissed off hardcore-punk stomp is apparent on "rohnert park" - noisy, dynamic and most importantly, impressive. Colored (purple) vimnyl includes a digital download card.

HARDCORE. CEREMONY made a name for themselves with chaotic and violent live shows. CEREMONY makes no statements of who they are or what they're trying to be. They are their own powerful and unique force in the world of punk - it's an alluring, challenging, ugly middle finger to those who call themselves rebellious. Colored (red) vinyl comes with a gatefold-cover and includes a digital download card.

POST-PUNK. CEREMONY's 5th studio album, "the l-shaped man", uses singer Ross Farrar's recent breakup as a platform to explore loneliness and emotional weariness, but it is by no means a purely sad album. In order to tell Farrar's story, CEREMONY has almost completely stripped back the propulsive hardcore of their previous records, turning every angry outburst into simmering despair. It brings to mind some alternate version of JOY DIVISION that hasn't quite lost all hope. It gets close to exploding, but instead plays the shadows, never quite rising above a nervous simmer. Vinyl includes a digital download card.

POST-PUNK. CEREMONY are a punk band from, California. Their 3 albums are widely seen as the most compelling, unusual and progressive hardcore of the last years. For their Matador debut "zoo", the band have refined their jagged sound while continuing to pursue themes of exurban alienation and confinement. "zoo" explores punk and post-punk traditions: the rhythm section remains as tense and propulsive as ever, while the guitarist moves with ease from ringing power chords to stealthy leads reminiscent of GANG FOUR and THE CRAMPS. The vocals sometimes recall WIRE's "pink flag", ranging from a melodic howl to a muttered incantation. The result is gripping and indelible.

GARAGE/POST-PUNK. Ian Svenonius (MAKE UP, NATION OF ULYSSES etc.) and his band have created singalongs on this record. A call and response in the tradition of gospel tunes, work favorites, and the girl groups and vocal aggregates that once dotted the corners of the Mid-Atlantic states. This record is simple and profound, the way a pebble on the beach is. There are no song cycles, sample beats, sequencers, or baby pictures of the artist as a tot.

GARAGE/POST-PUNK. CHAIN & THE GANG should require very little introduction, but for the ignorant among you, here you go: Ian Svenonius, the DC denizen famous from NATION OF ULYSSES, THE MAKE UP etc., slides on in to the famous Dub Narcotic Studios to record this record with his team of oh-so-cool revolutionaries. As a group, they veer out of Chain's previously ultra-political content and instead slide into the school cafeteria in their socks, wearing sunglasses in the spotty light of the disco ball. The record was recorded in mono, giving it a spacious, original feeling. Vinyl includes a digital download card.

GARAGE/POST-PUNK. Ian Svenonius returns with a second installment of hisCHAIN & THE GANG project! Oh happy day! Recorded with pretty much the same musicians and singers "music's not for everyone" is another master piece chock full of Svenonius's sharp wit and amazing players. Do people who listen to music even like it? Do people deserve it even if they buy it? "music is not for everyone". Music is for the few, for the brave.
