INDIE-ROCK. Formed in Olympia in 1994, SLEATER KINNEY put out 7 searing albums in 10 years before going on indefinite hiatus in 2006. But the new album isn't about reminiscing, it's about reinvention - the ignition of an unparalleled chemistry to create new sounds and tell new stories. This band requires a certain desperation, a direness. We have to be willing to push because the entity that is this band will The core of this record is their relationship, to each other, to the music, and how all of them still felt strongly enough to about those to sweat it out in the basement and to try and reinvent their band. INDIE-ROCK. SLEATER KINNEY is a three-piece rock 'n' roll combo from the wilds of Portland, Oregon. "the woods" is their 7th full-length release and 1st for Sub Pop. You’ll find here: honest-to-god guitar heroics/solos; new depth and heaviness to the songs; fuzzed out lows cropping up in places formerly reserved for staccato highs. POP/EMO-PUNK. Whisper it, but there’s been a subtle change sweeping through the pop-punk landscape of late. Not quite a revolution – possibly an edge towards evolution – but whatever way you cut it, there’s no denying the rise in bands getting real and flexing their creative, emotional and songwriting muscles in 2017. Chicago five-piece SLEEP ON IT are emblematic of this collective shot at more than 4/4 beats, sheer energy and sun-drenched fun. Colored vinyl is limited to 500 copies and includes a digital download card.

POP/EMO-PUNK. The 2nd full-length album from Chicago based pop-punk outfit SLEEP ON IT. "pride & disaster", is the follow-up to 2017's "overexposed". SLEEP ON IT harnesses the strength and vulnerability of the human spirit. The positivity found throughout "pride & disaster" adds a silver lining to an album that is also unafraid to address the problems that many, including the band, face with mental health. Vinyl includes a digital download card.

POST/NOISE-ROCK. If SLINT's debut, '89's "tweez", was one of the earliest salvos in what came to be known as post-rock, their 2nd album, '91s "spiderland" was where the band pushed their most radical ideas forward and created a touchstone, working with dynamics that made the silences every bit as much presence as the guitars and drums, manipulating space and time as they stretched out and juggled time signatures, and conjuring melodies that were as sparse and fragmented as they were beautiful. It took years for "spiderland" to be acknowledged as one of the most important indie albums of the '90s, and that seems fitting: this is music that demands a certain patience and participation from the listener, and word of mouth seems a curiously but absolutely fitting way to spread the word about a band that says so much with so few words.

PUNK-ROCK. Featuring 2/5 of NO TRIGGER and a member of SKOCK NAGASAKI, SMARTBOMB is no stranger to punk-rock, but with the aforementioned bands' hectic touring schedules, SMARTBOMB has been on the backburner and remained one of Massachusetts' best-kept secrets.
