HIGH SOCIETY, THE
schatten über nürnberg (2011/SEARCH FOR FAME)
HARDCORE-PUNK. Newest single of Nürnbergs '80s hardcore-punk outfit THE HIGH SOCIETY!
HIGH TENSION WIRES
welcome new machine (2011/DIRTNAP)
PUNK-ROCK. "welcome new machine" is the 3rd album from this Texas super-group! The current lineup of HIGH TENSION WIRES features Mike Wiebe (RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS), Mark Ryan (MARKED MEN/MIND SPIDERS), Chris Pulliam (THE REDS), plus Daniel Fried and Greg Rutherford (both of the just-signed-to-Dirtnap THE BAD SPORTS). HIGH TENSION WIRES originally started as an on-again-off-again recording project. "welcome new machine" brings a perfect synthesis of their previous 2 albums. Rocks as hard as "send a message", while incorporating the nuances they began developing on ''midnight cashier''. A fair amount of ground is covered here, from THE MARKED MEN's trademark choppy pop sound to straightforward punk, to darker-edged post-punk. HIGH TENSION WIRES remain primarily a studio band, having played about 10 shows in their entire existence.
shrines to the warhead (2010/VENDETTA)
SLUDGE/DOOM. HIGHGATE, a Kentucky trio of escaped mental patients play nasty sludge in the vein of BURNING WITCH, GRIEF, NOOTHGRUSH, WINTER or CORRUPTED. Their music drones severely at times, but there is always an emphasis on riffs and industrialized, hard hitting beats, suicidal, slow doom depression riffs - sometimes the pace picks up a bit and HIGHGATE actually starts to bring down a little lightning bolt of gooey, filth stricken groove, this band actually likes to play music instead of staring off at their amplifiers and playing a note every 10 minutes. The LP is limited to 300 copies and handnumbered.
oceanside blues (2010/INKBLOT)
HARDCORE-PUNK. HIGHLIFE (not to be confused with HIGH LIFE from Texas) drop another 7" featuring more fast, thrashy, booze-soaked skate-hardcore that could be described as NEGAZIONE meets early JFA with a hint of THE MIDDLE CLASS and newer bands like DEEP SLEEP thrown in for good measure. Snotty monotone vocals, offensive lyrics and raging surf inspired leads aplenty.
hold (2013/MAGIC BULLET)
POST/INDIE-ROCK. HIGHNESS' debut album "hold" stems from a desire to create something more than the sum of its parts, something hinted at by the contributing artists’ past work but expected by nobody. The band’s pedigree includes such varied approaches as CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE’s heartfelt emo, DARKEST HOUR and PG.99?s frantic aggression, the expansive experimentalism of GHASTLY CITY SLEEP and ANTARCTICA, the atmospheric post-hardcore of CITY OF CATERPILLAR and FORENSICS, or the hushed ambient soundscapes of AUGHRA and YEARS. The members' background in widely varied manifestations of independent music is readily apparent both in the array of sonic devices employed and the deftness with which they’re combined into a unified whole. Ultimately, "hold" isn’t simply an album but a journey. Colored vinyl includes a digital download card.
new fuel (2001/DERANGED)
HARDCORE. Musically, HIGHSCORE are playing high energy youth-crew style hardcore, comparable to UNIFORM CHOICE and other classic first-wave straight-edge bands. Loud, powerful vocals screamed over fast straight ahead hardcore with some chorus parts just to keep you involved is what HIGHSCORE does best. Their lyrics are all pro-hardcore and anti-rock star. Down to earth and just rockin’ as best they can with no regrets. Solid and totally energetic!
tower to the people (2011/THE YEAR IS ONE)
METAL-PUNK. "street-metal" may be how HIGHTOWER used to describe themselves, but there music has grown and evolved to represent the dudes' weirdly eclectic interests. Harsh thrash and even progressive come together seamlessly, while vintage metal riffs chug merrily alongside grating punk. It's not so much that HIGHTOWER wears a lot of hats that don't go together, but rather that the music they make has become a reflection of the pins crowding for space on their jean jackets. Handnumbered out of 500 copies.
run dry (2013/TOXIC POP)
POST-PUNK. HIGHWAY CROSS is the product of 4 of northern Virginia's most talented and esteemed veterans of the hardcore/punk scene. Members played in MAJORITY RULE, CLOAG/DAGGER, SHOUTBUS and TRIAC. The band certainly worships at the altar of Rick Froburg (OBITS, HOT SNAKES, DRIVE LIKE JEHU) and it shows through loud, crunchy, angular riffs backed by pounding, driving rhythms. Vinyl includes a digital download and is limited to 300 copies.
trenches/bikini atol (2011/X-MIST)
INDIE/POST-ROCK. New Californian band featuring ex- and current members of the BAD DUDES, SILVER DAGGERS, and BIPOLAR BEAR aka TURRKS! Maybe they sound anything like these, or maybe not? Our initial thought was it sounds like STEEL POLE BATH TUB meets LES SAVY FAV. Someone else said it's like LES SAVY FAV songs interpreted by KARP. And if you're unfamiliar with any of these references, then you may think as well of something like being stuck in between DEERHOOF and DEERHUNTER. Vinyl includes a MP3 download card.
death is infinitive (2001/REVELATION)
HARDCORE. This Seattle band has persevered through the trials that probably would have torn any other band apart. Taking their chaotic metal hardcore edge to a new level, this release marks the first release featuring John Pettibone (ex-UNDERTOW and NINEIRONSPITFIRE) on vocals. Heavy and technical metal hardcore that brings to mind BOTCH, "until your heart stops" era CAVE-IN, and CONVERGE.
ground breaking ceremony (1999/REVELATION)
HARDCORE/METAL. Formed to provide an outlet for each member of the group's expression of anger, and political and emotional rage, HIMSA continues to slay those in the hardcore scene who can keep up with their explosive fury. Ten brand new tracks that smash through the barrriers of aggressive rock with a whirlwind assault of extreme hardcore defiance soaked in an acid-bath of controlled mayhemic noise. Features former members TRIAL, HARKONEN, CHRIST and more.
HARDCORE. HIMSA was forged in 1998 to provide outlets of each members' expression, anger, and political and emotional rage. Initiated by members of the Seattle band TRIAL, the genesis of HIMSA began at a basement practice. With the addition of the multi-talented Aaron Edge (HARKONEN, GENUINE etc.) on guitar and Christian on vocals, the makings for a complete aural and mental assault were complete.
Shake their hips (2007/SLOVENLY)
GARAGE-PUNK. 14 blistering tracks of teenage angst. These three young chaps are sure to make the likes GG ALLIN, GUITAR WOLF, THE REATARDS, and even THE STONES very proud. Eric of OBLIVANS recently showed his approval with a release on his fine GONER RECORDS label. Excruciatingly loud trash punk straight from the garage that blares so loud that we applied a warning label for your speakers. Don't miss this one!
assassins of war (2006/DEEP SIX)
THRASH-METAL. Long running Southern California metal behemoths HIRAX, and originators of thrash-metal music, release a 5 song mini album. More than any other HIRAX record "assassins of war" takes you on a thrash-metal journey and gives you a sound of the band like you have never heard before! Fans of the band will chew off their own faces to get their skulls on this shit.
blasted in bangkok (2001/DEEP SIX)
THRASH-METAL. A reissue of the 3-song demo recorded in 1987 by Southern California metal gods. Includes the original 1984 version of the group's massive "bombs of death" as a bonus track.
